A New Era for .nz Domain Name Registration
On Saturday December 7th, the beginning of a new competitive market for .nz domain name registration services.
Until recently all .nz domain names were registered with Domainz. In this time, domain name registrations have totalled over 100,000. Now, with the decision by our shareholder InternetNZ to introduce a shared registration system, other authorised Registrars can offer .nz domain name registration services.
In moving to the new competitive environment, InternetNZ has created the Office of the Domain Name Commissioner to oversee the new .nz domain name registration and management system. InternetNZ has also established a new .nz domain name Registry, trading as .nz Registry Services.
Domainz will continue to be a Registrar in the new competitive environment and offer the same name registration services, as well as a number of new services. The changes that have occurred need not affect service providers’ ability to register names for their customers.
New Services From Domainz
Recently, we have spoken to a number of Internet Service Providers about our planned new services. The first of these, likely to be introduced early in the New Year, will be domain name parking, website redirection and email forwarding.
It is not Domainz’ intention to compete with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in making these new services available. We will not offer the new services to customers of ISPs who Domainz bulk bills and who are billed directly by their ISP for name registration.
The new services will be offered only to Name Holders who are billed directly by Domainz for their domain name registration.
