1. How do I change the MX Record or A record for my domain name?

To the MX / A record for a domain name you will first need to log-in to your account with your Name Holder ID and Password. If you have forgotten or lost these, you can use the Name Holder Password Recovery Tool.

  1. Log-In To Your Account from the 'Log Me In' Link on the top left of screen
  2. Click On The 'Search' Button in the middle of your screen, all the names on your account will be listed
  3. Click On the link for the domain name that you wish to update
  4. Click on the link 'Edit Domainz Web and Email Services'
  5. If the Domainz Forwarding Solutions option IS NOT selected, contact the customer services team before proceeding. Changing the current selection to the Domainz Forwarding Solutions will remove any hosting package you currently have with Domainz.If the Domainz Forwarding Solutions is selected, click the next button at the bottom of the page.
  6. On the forwarding solutions page, select the 'redirect to an existing page' option to forward to another website or point an A record.   Enter the website address to forward this domain name to or enter the IP address the A record should point to.To forward email put a tick in the box to forward all email and enter the email address all email should be forwarded to or enter the IP address for the MX record.  Click the next button
  7. Review the details, check the box to confirm acceptance of Domainz Terms and conditions and click 'Next'

You will receive an email within 15 minutes confirming the changes (sent to the admin contact).

2. How do I change the domain name servers associated with my name?

To update the name servers for a domain name you will first need to log-in to your account with your Name Holder ID and Password. If you have forgotten or lost these, you can use the Name Holder Password Recovery Tool.

  1. Log-In To Your Account from the 'Log Me In' Link on the top left of screen
  2. Click On The 'Search' Button in the middle of your screen, all the names on your account will be listed
  3. Click On the link for the domain name that you wish to update
  4. Click on the link 'Change Name Servers and/or Update Technical Contact details'
  5. Click on the 'X' to remove the existing name server details
  6. Enter  each new name server name and click on the refresh button to resolve the IP address, if the look-up tool doesn't find the IP address, please enter the IP address manually
  7. Scroll down and update contact details as appropriate
  8. Review the details, check the box to confirm acceptance of Domainz Terms and conditions and click 'Next'

You will receive an email within 15 minutes confirming the changes (sent to the tech and admin contacts).

3. When will the name server changes I have made take effect?
Any change you make to your Name Servers will begin to be reflected at the time of the next update for the relevant zone. For .nz domain names zone updates occur on the hour, every hour. When changing name servers, keep in mind that there will be a period of propagation where the changes you have made are reflected across the internet.
